Samuel "Sam" George Campbell, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2014. Mr. Campbell was born on May 9, 1918, in Charleston, West Virginia, the eldest son of Sam G. Campbell, Sr., and Virginia Clark. He is survived by his son Sam G. Campbell III, daughter-in-law Leslie Langee, grandchildren Robert Austin and Christopher Joel Campbell, brother Clark Campbell, sister Louise Campbell, and many nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends.
After growing up in Charleston, Mr. Campbell served in WWII, with the Army Air Corps. Upon his return, he graduated from West Virginia University (where he was a Sigma Chi). He then moved to Melbourne, FL, where he met and married the love of his life, Gladys Emma Abbott. With her help, they started Central Brevard Sporting Goods. A few years later, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell had their son, Samuel. An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing in Pro-Am tournaments and working on his 1-stroke handicap. His greatest joy in life was being a father and grandfather. He cherished spending time with his family in activities such as fishing, golfing, and motocross. He is deeply loved and terribly missed.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd. A private graveside service will be held.
