

He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin in 1951, and received BA and MA degrees from The University of Texas in 1959 & 1962.
He served four years in the United States Air Force, 1953-1957, and received an honorable discharge.
He was employed by the Federal Government for 21 years in Ft. Worth and Washington, D.C. and was a long time resident of Reston, Virginia. He served in the Federal Aviation Administration, The US Post Office Department, and the Department of Transportation, retiring on disability when he was Director of Management Systems for the Federal Railroad Administration, DOT.
In 1983, with G.F. Nafziger, Joe published The British Military: Its System and Organization 1803-1815. Joe also wrote several articles on the History of the British Army and on the Napoleonic Wars. He enjoyed hunting, camping and white-water canoeing. He organized a reunion of the Red Dragon Players of Austin High School, 1948-1954.
He was predeceased by his father, Solomon Joseph Park, Jr., and his mother, Mattie Catherine Johnson Park. He is survived by his sons Clinton Burch Park and Christopher Joseph Park and his wife Kimberley, two step-daughters, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Cook Walden Funeral Home in Austin on January 26, 2013, at 4 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
