Sonia Zapata Vasquez

Our beloved Sonia Zapata Vasquez, of Austin, Texas, passed away at 51 years of age peacefully on March 2, 2026. She was born on June 8, 1974 in Lockhart, Texas to Manuela “Sally” Mendoza and Joe Zapata. Sonia lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to her family and community.

She attended St. Edward's University. Sonia valued education and personal growth. Her vibrant personality and generous spirit touched the lives of many. She was known for her loving nature, kindness, and outgoing demeanor that made everyone feel welcome in her presence.

Sonia found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved thrift shopping for hidden treasures, sewing with care and creativity, cooking meals that brought people together, and indulging in moments of self-care by getting her hair and makeup done. These hobbies reflected her warmth and zest for life.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her identity. Sonia had accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and dedicated herself to serving others through her church community. She volunteered tirelessly and taught home Bible groups, sharing her deep belief in God’s love with those around her.

Above all else, Sonia cherished her role as a mother. She is survived by her beloved children: Raquelle Dion Gonzalez, Joe Andrew Juarez, Adriana Evette Rodriguez and husband Eduardo Rodriguez, Anna Alicia Vasquez and husband Roberto Diaz-Hernandez, Luis Jonathan Vasquez Jr. and wife Marily Vasquez, Lily Reanne Vasquez, Layah Celeste Vasquez, and her grandchildren: Alec'zander Rey Vasquez, Mila Rose Diaz-Vasquez, Roberto Elias Diaz-Vasquez, Sofia Natalia Diaz-Vasquez and one on the way Amelia Grace Rodriguez. Her unwavering devotion to her family was evident in every aspect of her life.

Sonia’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her legacy of kindness and faith continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.

Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704, US, on March 14, 2026, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

A Celebration of Life (Reception) will take place at Oak Meadow Baptist Church, 6905 S I-35 Frontage Rd, Austin, TX 78744, US, on March 14, 2026, beginning at 1:15PM
