

Stagg Bernard Pierson, 74, of Lockhart, formerly of Houston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. He was born on July 3, 1949 in Houston to Lawrence Pierson and Robbie Lee Peyton Pierson. He enjoyed playing the piano, organ and conducting choir at numerous Houston Churches. Stagg proudly served in the United States Air Force for ten and a half years.
He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 2000 and completed his Master’s Degree of Education in 2004. Shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was not expected to live more than five years. Through faith, strength, determination, the exceptional care provided by his wife, Sue along with the phenomenal medical knowledge of the doctors and staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, we were blessed to have him with us for 16 more years.
Stagg was an avid sports fan, especially football and basketball. He loved to barbecue in his specially-made pit and spend time with his family.
Stagg is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sister; and numerous other relatives. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 27 years, Sue Pierson; children, Dr. Stacy B. Pierson; Dr. Tamira Pierson; Angela Washington and husband, Kenneth; Sondra Landry and husband, Max; grandchildren, Tia Durden and Chase Morton and wife, Natalie; great-granddaughter, Hadley Morton; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. A Celebration of Stagg’s Life will be at 1:00 PM in the Chapel. Military Honors will be under the auspices of the United States Air Force Honors Team.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Amy Hessel and her staff, Dr. Gregory Chronowski and his staff, and all of the Staff Speech Pathologists associated with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Also extended gratitude to Christus Hospice including Kyle, Christine, and Ebony and Chisholm Trail Nursing and Rehabilitation Center including Ashley, Marie, and all of the other staff members who cared for Stagg during his final days.
