Sue graduated from Odessa High School in 1939. She married Coleman S. Pack, a US Navy Lieutenant, on September 13, 1942. He lost his life on September 13, 1944 at sea. His remains were never recovered. This continued to be an unanswerable void in her life as she struggled to understand what truly happened to Coleman. Sue was remarried on June 4, 1954 to Oval Massey. He died on September 1, 1981 after a lengthy illness. Sue was a dedicated wife and stayed by his side every day until his passing.
Sue worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. T. C. Terrell’s Trumpter Oil Company in Ft. Worth for many years. Sue and Oval moved to Houston, back to Ft. Worth and then settled in Austin to make their permanent home.
Sue retired from the Pflugerville ISD after 25 years of service at the age of 81years old. She was an avid deer hunter and fisherwoman in her younger years. She loved hunting in west Texas and fishing in north eastern New Mexico. Sue loved football, playing poker, and living life on this earth. Sue lived a long and courageous life. She was smart, savvy, astute, paid attention to detail and cared deeply about others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers, Ben Donald and Rodney Paige Austin and aunt, Violet Wickware Jobe of Crowley.
She is survived by her God-children, Lea Montgomery of Ft. Worth, TX and Judd Montgomery of Bedford, TX; and her best friends, Yvonne Zimmer of Pflugerville, TX and Charlotte Montgomery of Ft. Worth, TX.
We wish to thank the staff at Parmer Woods Assisted Living for providing her stability, camaraderie and companionship during the last 7 years of her life. We also want to thank the nursing and medical staff at North Austin Medical Center ICU during her last days. They are truly heroes in our eyes.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday June 11 at 10:30 am at Parmer Woods Assisted Living Facility, 12429 Scofield Farms Dr. in Austin, TX. Please join us and share in this tribute for Sue.
