Tom & Family:
I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family.  I had the privilege of working closely with Susan for nearly twenty years, and in that time she became so much more than a boss to me—she was like a second mom, a mentor, and a constant source of strength and wisdom.

She was an extraordinary leader, incredibly smart, and had a presence that made people stop and truly listen.  When she spoke, you knew you were hearing guidance from the very best.  I will always remember her warm smile, her unforgettable laugh, and the kindness she showed to everyone around her.

As her Executive Assistant for many years, one of my roles was to keep her schedule and ensure she was exactly where she needed to be.  This moment… this loss… was something none of us could ever prepare for.  My heart is truly broken, and I will miss her more than words can express.

Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope you find comfort, strength, and peace in the days ahead, and that you feel her love and presence surrounding you.  She will always be looking down on all of us with that same bright smile.

I had the great privilege of working with Susan for the past decade.  She was a beautiful person, inside and out and we quickly became friends.  She approached everything she did with her unique wit, humor and unlimited knowledge of pretty much everything.  I've never met anyone like her, and I will miss her more than I can ever express.  Thank you to the family for uploading all of these photos; it is wonderful to see pictures of the family she talked about so often and loved so much.

They say dynamite comes in small packages.   Well Susan was a small package.   What an impact she made on our world.  Susan will be missed.   You couldn’t help but love her and be attracted to her.   I can hardly wait to hear what she has to say in the next life❤️

Susan loved animals, and I remember in law school she had a Bluetick Coonhound named Barney. My memory is that she had a second dog who passed away around the time we were in school. She had both dogs when she married Tom, and joked that while Barney became “Barney Bittick,” the other dog was jealous of Tom and “refused to take the Bittick name.” She just had this humorous way of looking at the world. We laughed a lot.

I have so many wonderful memories of Susan, but what I’ll remember most is her laughter and the pure joy she brought to life.

Susan let us keep a life-sized cutout of Elvis in the law journal office and we dressed him up for our graduation.

As Editor in Chief of the St. Louis University Law Journal, Susan used her journalist’s skill and sharp intellect to shepherd challenging legal scholarship, including an internationally recognized Health Law Symposium. But it was her leadership, mentorship, and friendship that left the greatest mark. She supported her peers, lifted spirits during stressful times, and built friendships that lasted far beyond law school. We will miss Susan dearly and cherish the wisdom, warmth, and legacy she gave us.
