After 46 years of marriage, Suzanne Haroutune Geil, 78, and Kent Carlyle Geil, 73, passed away within six weeks of each other, in Austin, Texas. Kent Carlyle Geil passed away on November 25, 2024. Suzanne Haroutune Geil passed away on January 5, 2025.
Suzanne was born on November 14, 1946 in Aleppo, Syria to the late Haroutune and Lucine (Tashjian) Havounjian. She graduated from the American University of Beirut, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Kent was born on July 28, 1951 in Elkhart, Indiana to the late Joseph and Evelyn (Gilbert) Geil. He graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in aviation technology.
Suzanne and Kent were working in Saudi Arabia, when they met at a Boxing Day party hosted by Suzanne’s boss. In family lore it remains unclear if Kent, who tagged along with friends, was actually invited to the party—but Kent and Suzanne were both glad he went, as it was love at first sight for the pair. They married in 1978, and spent the next several years traveling the world before settling in Austin, Texas, where they made their home. Kent spent a fulfilling career in the semiconductor industry, working for nearly 30 years at Advanced Micro Devices (later known as Spansion), and Suzanne devoted herself tirelessly to her family and home.
Suzanne and Kent are survived by their children, Vanessa (Samuel) Windham, Sevon Geil, and Brandon Geil. Suzanne is also survived by her siblings John (Jane) Havoonjian, Seta Orjanian, Sona Sarkissian, and Lena (Hovannes) Boyadjian. Kent is also survived by his brother Steve (Dorothy) Geil, and brother-in-law Larry Gard. Both Suzanne and Kent are survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her parents, Suzanne is preceded in death by brothers-in-law Ohannes Orjanian and Aram Sarkissian. In addition to his parents, Kent is preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Gard.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on January 30, 2025, at the Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, with Rev. Emily K. Béghin officiating.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Austin for the loving care provided to Suzanne and Kent.
