

He married Delores Nadyne Grissom March 6, 1950 in Odessa, Texas. They had recently celebrated 70 years of marriage with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lena Belle Lowery, and his two grandsons, Jonathan Gartman and Sean Gartman.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years and their three children. Surviving him are his son David Gartman, daughter Melynda Gartman Caudle, both of New Braunfels, Texas, son John Gartman of Hobbs, NM, grandson Joshua Caudle, Austin, granddaughter Melissa Caudle, Austin and granddaughter Shelley Gartman Richardson, Lubbock, TX; and three great grandchildren.
Mr. Gartman was a Korean War veteran and served in the U.S. Army medical corps from 1954 to 1956 and saw service in New Orleans, LA, and Thule, Greenland. He then spent his working career in Eunice, NM where he worked for Skelly Oil Company and Getty Oil, from 1951 until his retirement in 1978. He was a proud member and past president of his chapter of the AFL-CIO and served as a deacon in their various church homes.
In 1978 he moved back to the Athens, Texas, area where he enjoyed traveling and fishing. In 2000, he returned to New Mexico until moving to the Austin area in 2011. He had lived in Kyle the past seven years where he was a member of First Baptist Church.
At his direction, there will be no service.
