Tommy Eugene Hynds took his final lap to be with our Lord and Savior on July 22, 2019. He is survived by his lovely wife Jo Ann Hynds, daughter Deborah Wilcox, son Steve Hynds, sisters Charlene Cox, Dixie Grimes, Sammy Harrison, and their families, as well as five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Charlie Miller Hynds, mother AnnaBelle Hynds, and brother Robert George Hynds.
Tommy was born in Tucumcari, New Mexico, on April 25, 1937. He spent a part of his early adulthood in Gentry, Arkansas where he met the love of his life, Jo Ann. They moved to the Austin rural area with both of their children in 1963, when Tommy was offered a job at Nasa Space Center.
He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union and spent his spare time building their first home in Austin in 1976, their second home in SunsetCanyon in 1986, and their third home in Dripping Springs in 2010. Tommy also helped remodel an office building, which is now Sunset Canyon Baptist, and restore First Baptist Church Dripping Springs after the fire in 2007.
In the early 1980s, Tommy was part of the pit crew for Johnny Voudouris’ racing team. He would tinker and repair the sand rail dune buggies for the next race. When Steve Hynds started to race, Tommy was his biggest fan!
Tommy was a generous, witty, and dedicated man, who was passionate about life and helping his community. He was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church Dripping Springs where he was a part of the Building Committee. Tommy was a genuine, loving, kind, big hearted man, and he will be forever missed.
