Velma was born on August 19th of 1938 in New Orleans, LA to James and Mickey Turner. At 14 years old, she moved with her family to Dallas, Texas where she later met the love of her life, Peter Louis Brady IV. The two were married in 1959. Two years later they welcomed their daughter Polly and relocated to Austin, Texas where their family grew again with the arrival of their son Philip in 1966.
Velma lived a life overflowing with faith, service, and love for her family. Deeply active in her church and a longtime employee then volunteer at St. David’s Medical Center, she also found great joy in traveling the world and discovering new places. She will be remembered above all for her boundless generosity, her gentle and unwavering optimism, and the steady kindness that defined her. From rooting for her grandchildren at their every game, to clipping and sharing her favorite newspaper jokes, to nurturing her beloved garden, Velma radiated joy, comfort, and love to all who crossed her path.
She is survived by her daughter, Polly, and her son, Philip; her two grandsons of whom she was immensely proud of, Jackson and Justin; her younger sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Elmer; and many dear friends who were like family to her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 46 years, Pete; her parents, James and “Mickey” Turner; her siblings, Bob and Dot; as well as her son-in-law, Mark.
The family would like to show their most sincere appreciation to the memory care unit at Maravilla at the Domain, as well as Suncrest Hospice, for the wonderful and loving care that they provided for Velma.
