

Sis. Velma Lee McMarion-Sirles entered into eternal rest at the precious age of 85 on the evening of March 19, 2017. Sis. Sirles transitioned peacefully at St. David’s Medical Center after a brief illness.
Sis. Sirles was the fifth child of seven born and raised in Bastrop, Texas to Precious McMarion, Sr. and Lenora Jackson-McMarion. In June 1956, Sis. Velma married the love of her life, Henry Lee Sirles and to this union was born four children. Her nurturing spirit made her house a loving and inviting home. Sis. Sirles spirit extended beyond the doors of her home in various employment opportunities.
At a young age Sis. Sirles joined Union Chapel AME Church in Cedar Creek, Texas. Her continuous Christian journey led her to Ben Washington Baptist Church in Irving, Texas and later to Paul Quinn AME Church in Bastrop, Texas where she remained faithful until her death.
Sis. Sirles loved Paul Quinn AME Church but more importantly she loved the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; therefore she served the Lord in spirit and truth.
Her ministries included serving on the usher board, announcing clerk, choir, stewardess, missionary society and at present was a stewardess. Along with her love for the Lord she also introduced her children to Christ at an early age and encourage them to serve in multiple capacities.
One of her favorite quotes was “Do the right thing and be kind to others.”
Sis. Velma Sirles is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Alford Jackson, and four sisters: Juanita Sneed, Wilma Hodges, Marie Franklin and Rosie Collins and two brothers: Precious McMarion, Jr., and Forrest McMarion, Sr.
Sis. Sirles leaves to cherish her precious memory, four children; two daughters Marion Jackson and Edith Sirles-Robinson (Leo) and two sons; Curtis Sirles (Glenda) and Donald Sirles (Robin). Her granddaughter Danielle Sirles and her doting grandson Aaron Sirles. One brother-in-law Otis Smith, five sisters-in-law; Hattie McMarion, Shirley McMarion, Aillene Sirles-Perkins, Lillian Cleveland, Aterlia Sirles, one aunt Annie Franklin, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
