Wanda Jean Budge Rice, the daughter of George William Budge and Genia Elizabeth Cude Budge, was born April 9, 1926, in Somerset, Texas, passed away Wednesday, October 01, 2014 at the age of 88.
Wanda had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was an active member of Austin Baptist Church. She was married to the late Arthur Eugene Rice and was blessed with one daughter, Virginia Ann Rice Tew, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
In her professional life she was employed with the Girl Scouts (Texas Colorado Lakes Council and Lone Star Girl Scout Council) for 29 years from January 25, 1956 until May 1, 1985. She served as Camp Director, Assistant Executive Director and Executive Director. Under her leadership in a successful capital campaign, the Lone Star Scout Council moved into new headquarters on Cameron Road in 1984.
Wanda was proceeded in death by her parents, George William Budge and Genia Elizabeth Cude Budge, her husband, Arthur Eugene Rice, and two brothers George William Budge Jr. and Travis Clemith Budge.
She is survived by her daughter Ginger Rice Tew and husband Rodney of Austin; grandchildren Teresa Tew Taccolini and husband Ray of San Clemente, California, Ronald Budge Tew and wife Jennifer Hewlett Tew of Cedar Park, Texas, Ross Franklin Tew and wife Erica Bray Tew of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Ryan Sanders Tew and wife Sarah Fuentes Tew of Richardson, Texas; and great-grandchildren Preston Amadee Tew, and Autumn Whitten Tew of Cedar Park, Texas, Drew Emerson Taccolini and Lilliana Elizabeth Taccollini of San Clemente, California, and Vivienne Florence Tew of Ft. Worth, Texas.
The family wishes to thank Rosie Manley, her loving care-giver, her team of doctors at Austin Diagnostics Clinic, and the staff at The Isle at Cedar Ridge for their compassionate and loving care during the last two years of her life.
Funeral services will be 10 o'clock am, Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas with Dr. Gary Dyer officiating. Interment will follow at Bagdad Cemetery in Leander, Texas. The family will receive friends at a formal visitation from 9 o'clock am prior to the service. Those desiring to pay their respects may sign the memorial register at the funeral home from 8 o'clock am until 5 o'clock pm daily up to the service date.
Memorials may be made to the Austin Baptist Church or the Lone Star Girl Scout Council.
