Wanda Stephens Spooner

Mrs. Spooner was born July 4, 1928 in Gatesville, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Anna Maude and E.K. Stephens of Gatesville. She was educated in the public schools of Gatesville and was a member of the 1945 graduating class of Gatesville High School.

She married Joe E. Spooner of Bastrop, Texas on August 26, 1951 and lived in Austin until 2006.

Wanda was blessed with a beautiful voice which she used for God's praise, singing as a member of and soloist with St. John's United Methodist Church Chancel Choir in Austin. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Wanda enjoyed playing the piano and dancing with her husband, Joe, to the big band music of the 1940's and 1950's, especially on cruises.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, on September 5, 1993. Also preceding her in death were her sister, Maxine Stephens Lyons, and brother-in-law, Leonard L. Lyons of Ft. Worth.

Survivors include her son, Steve Spooner and wife, Susan, of Waco; her granddaughter, Mikaela Spooner and grandson, Mitchell Spooner; niece, Stephanie Withers, of Arlington; and nephew, Len Lyons and family of Bedford, Texas.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin with the Rev. Dr. Sid Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
