

W.H. "Bill" Lindner, 85, passed away October 19 while traveling abroad with his loving companion and friend, Maxine Roberts of Austin. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at Smith Family Chapel at Riverbend Church on Saturday, November 22 at 10:00 am. A private interment will follow in Remembrance Gardens.
Bill was born and raised in the near eastside neighborhood (Irvington) of Indianapolis, IN where he attended Thomas Carr Howe High School, Culver Military Academy and Purdue University. He was also a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He served in the U.S. Army as an Intelligence Specialist and was stationed in Japan and Baltimore. During his service he was awarded a Korean Service Medal and a United Nations Service Medal.
After his military career, Bill joined forces with his brother, David R. Lindner II, to run the family dairy business, Lindner Brother's Ice Cream Company of Indianapolis. The company was started in 1929 by his father and uncle. His mother, Hannah, took over leadership of the business during World War II.
Bill was a Founding member and past President of the Sertoma Club of East Indianapolis. He also served on the Board of Directors for Allied Purchasing (IA) for several years.
Bill was an active member of the UT Forum, the Austin Dance Club and the Austin Waltz Club. He was a member of the Riverbend Church as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his companion Maxine Roberts; his brother David R. Lindner II of Indianapolis; his sister Marian Olbina, Sun City, FL; two children, John and Susan Lindner; two step-children, Todd and Kelly Ollendorff and three grandchildren, Clay and Evan Lindner, and Alex Lopez. He was preceded in death by his wives, Marillyn Lindner (1995) and Donna Ollendorff (2005).
