

William 'Bill' Paul Johnston peacefully passed away on May 11, 2010. He was born in Dallas Texas on December 15, 1924. Bill served his country as a Naval Aviator in WWII from 1943 until 1946. After he served in the Navy, he attended The University of Texas on the GI Bill, graduating in 1949. Bill enjoyed extensive travels throughout Mexico and Central America during the 1940's and early 1950's. He was a life-long educator in Texas and made his home in Corpus Christi and Austin. After receiving a Doctorate in Education from University of Texas, he moved his family to Bethioua, Algeria where he was the Director of an international school funded by Pullman-Kellogg Oil Co. While in Algeria, he traveled with his family throughout Europe, then retired in Austin, Texas. He was a true gentleman whose wealth was in spirit, curiosity and insight. Bill is survived by his wife Caroline; 4 children: Joseph, Mary, Margaret and Paul; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a brother, Alfred Johnston of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Annie, in August 2009. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 16th with Recitation of the Rosary at 5:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Lamar location. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17th at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest in South Austin. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to funeral services. A reception in the Parish Hall will follow the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a charitable/humanitarian foundation of your choosing in William P. Johnston's name.
