

William Gerald "Bill" Nagel, 69, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, August 31, 2007 at Christopher House in Austin, Tx. He was born, with his twin brother, on April 20, 1938 at the downtown Memorial Hospital in Houston, TX. He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, TX in 1956 and attended The University of Texas at Austin when it was just THE University of Texas! He spent his career with the family business -Nagel Manufacturing/Nagel Coat Hanger Co.- started by his father and grandfather in 1929, was moved to Austin from his beloved Houston in the early 1960's and he moved to Austin with it. He was known as the "hanger" man. Bill served on numerous bank boards, was a member of West Austin Rotary Club, Austin Country Club for many years, past president of Northwest Little League, was involved in various roles at Laguna Gloria Art Museum, was a member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards and was a co-sponsor of the United Methodist Youth Fellowship, sponsored the Austin Travis County Livestock Youth Group and was a 40 year 32nd degree Mason in the Hill City Lodge. Bill loved his family, UT, the Longhorns, the Houston Oilers, the Houston Astros and golf. He was a very, very competitive person with a very strong spirit. There are still many golf clubs residing in trees to attest to his competitiveness. He was a very gregarious person who always had a funny joke to tell, and he was a master joke teller. "Hot Tub" Papa was very proud of his grandchildren and very generous with them. There was always an endless supply of suckers to be found in his secret hiding place in his car when he came to visit. Uncle Bill's magic penny tricks will be sorely missed by family and friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents LeRoy Frederick Nagel, Sr. and Jessie Emogene Lemburg Nagel; his sister and brother-in-in law, Elizabeth Lee "Betty" Nagel Gilliam and Hugh Milson Gilliam; his sister-in-law, Harriet Olson Nagel. Bill is survived by his two sons William Gerald Nagel, Jr, of Irvine, California, and Robert McDonald Nagel and wife , Tracy Sporn Nagel and four grandchildren Madeline Lee, Meredith Anne, Jackson McDonald, and Mallory Grace all of Austin, TX. He is also survived by his twin brother, LeRoy F. "Ted" Nagel, Jr. and wife Jan of Austin, TX, numerous nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and countless friends. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses in ICU at Seton Northwest and Hospice Austin for taking such careful, respectful, and loving care of our father during his illness. Visitation will be on Monday, September 3, 2007, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley Fish Funeral Home 3125 N. Lamar. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 10:30a.m. at Austin Memorial Park at 2800 Hancock Dr with services at Tarrytown United Methodist Church 2601 Exposition at 12:00 noon followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
