

Windell Ray Hayes, 76, of Bastrop passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013 due to progressive cancer. Born October 19, 1936 in Liberty Hill, TX, son of Melva and Weldon Hayes. He started 1st grade in Bastrop, TX moved to Austin, TX in the 3rd grade and made many wonderful lifetime friends. Entered in the workforce at age 15 and understood the value of hard work. His background consisted of being a (jack of all trades) heavy equipment operator, truck driver, concrete production plant foreman, factory maintenance foreman, auto repair shop owner, guard for Bastrop Sheriff Department, dirt and gravel business, designed and built BBQ pits. Hobbies consisted of playing dominoes, dancing, playing pool, 1939 chev pickup, car racing, gardening, growing the pecan trees, traveling and enjoyed Mexican cultures.
Survived by Mary Keilers Hayes wife of 54 years, children Windell Hayes Jr. and Cindy Hayes Brown, grandchildren Marie, James, Kelly and Daniel and 4 great grandchildren. Since his sister's fatal bus accident 3 weeks ago he was the last surviving sibling of 4 brothers and 1 sister, Roger, J.W., Wayne, Kenneth, and Joyce Hayes Wilkerson. Other surviving family members are brothers in-law Ray Wilkerson, James Keilers, Dennis & Roseanne Keilers, Robert & Karen Keilers, sisters-in-law Loraine & Hugo Bazan, Doris & Jerry Schappe, Carolyn Hayes, along with numerous nephews and nieces and many dear friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday May 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. and service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Austin Christopher House, 4107 Spicewood Spring Rd, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78759 or a cancer charity of your choice.
