After graduating from Sterling High School, Winston was drafted to the Army February 20, 1943 where he was a Lineman stringing telephone lines in France and Germany during World War II until his Honorable Discharge February 02, 1946.
His civilian life was a life of service. Relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico and worked on the Santa Fe Railroad as a Chair Car Attendee. In 1949, working at the Rocky Mountain drugstore in Denver running the lunch counter there for 12 years in Denver. He made a name for himself for making the best green chili this side of New Mexico. He moved from Denver to Austin Texas in 1970 where he worked as a Food Service Manager at the University of Texas, the Manager for the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation as a Vocational Rehabilitation Teacher, and Bergstrom Air Force Base as a Food Service Manager. He loved to Golf with his brothers, nephews and friends. And, golfed up to age 89.
He retired after 9 years of employment with the City of Austin Water Department in 2009 at age 85.
He departed this life on December 02, 2018 at 11:55 a.m. in Austin, Texas.
Predeceased in death by his daughter Beverly Carole Rawlins (Armstrong) and son Michael Anthony Rawlins. His wife Mary Rawlins after 38 years of marriage and 12 of his siblings. He leaves to mourn his passing daughter Jacqueline Rawlins (Wren) and his brother Paul Rawlins, 2 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 3 great grandsons, 4 great granddaughters, and a host of nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
There will be a Memorial Service held on Wednesday December 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Christian Center; 3155 North Chambers Road, Aurora, CO 80011.
