Jean Anne Junkala

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Junkala, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Jean was born on October 25, 1961, in Dayton, Ohio, and passed away on September 3, 2025, at the age of 63.

She was the cherished wife of Luc Robitaille of Gatineau, QC, who mourns her deeply. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and art, bound by a love that was evident to everyone around them.

Jean was the daughter of the late Frédérick Junkala of Keene, New Hampshire, and the late Katre (née Patricia Warren) of Baltimore, Vermont. She leaves behind her devoted children, Nicole Bridgeman and her husband Sean of Kingston, ON, and Davin Robitaille and his wife Meggie of Sechelt, BC. She was a proud grandmother to Evan and Nolan Bridgeman, and to Rémy and Tala Robitaille, who brought her endless joy. She will also be missed by her brother Jim Junkala and his wife Ezmira of Richmond, Virginia, as well as by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

An internationally recognized painter and pastelist, Jean shared her gift with the world. She served on the Board of Directors of Arts Visuels de Gatineau since 2017 and took part in numerous exhibitions across Canada, the United States, and France. Her works can be found at jeanjunkala.com, and her creativity also found expression in her children’s book, You Never Know Where Heroes Grow, available on Amazon.ca. She was named Artist of the Year in 2025 in Gatineau and was a recipient of the prestigious Pastel Journal First Prize.

Above all, Jean will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and creativity. She had a remarkable gift for bringing people together—making sure family and friends stayed close, connected, and surrounded by love. That was her true masterpiece.

Elle était l’épouse chérie de Luc Robitaille de Gatineau, QC, qui la pleure profondément. Ensemble, ils ont bâti une vie remplie d’amour, de famille et d’art, unis par un amour qui était évident pour tous ceux qui les entouraient.

Jean était la fille de feu Frédérick Junkala de Keene, New Hampshire, et de feu Katre (née Patricia Warren) de Baltimore, Vermont. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants bien-aimés, Nicole Bridgeman et son époux Sean de Kingston, ON, et Davin Robitaille et son épouse Meggie de Sechelt, BC. Elle était une grand-maman fière de Evan et Nolan Bridgeman, ainsi que de Rémy et Tala Robitaille, qui ont fait sa joie. Artiste peintre et pastelliste reconnue internationalement, Jean a partagé son talent avec le monde. Elle a siégé au conseil d’administration d’Arts Visuels de Gatineau depuis 2017 et a participé à de nombreuses expositions au Canada, aux États-Unis et en France. Jean restera dans nos mémoires pour sa chaleur, sa générosité et sa créativité. Elle avait un don remarquable pour rassembler les gens — veillant toujours à ce que la famille et les amis demeurent proches, unis et entourés d’amour. C’était sa véritable œuvre d’art.
