John (Jean Numa) Bachtold passed away at the age of 84 on Saturday, April 19, 2014 in Gatineau. John's brother Charlie and sister Violette pre-deceased him, and he leaves his sister-in-law Loreen Bachtold as well as an extended family in western Canada and Switzerland. John was born at the family farm, near Whitewood, Sask. He became a psychiatric nurse and later completed a degree in social work at the University of Winnipeg. His career spans the fields of mental health, child protection, and elder care in Saskatchewan, Renfrew, and Ottawa, notably at the Elizabeth Bruyère Health Centre (now Bruyère Continuing Care). Although John always considered Alexandre Schnobb his son, he was also a father figure and friend to so many, including to Daniel Schnobb and Nicolas Lorin. He was Grandpapa John to Étienne Schnobb, Gabriel Schnobb, Simon Lorin, and Raphaël Lorin. Family and friends are invited to Racine, Robert & Gauthier Beauchamp Funeral Home, 271 St-Joseph Blvd., Gatineau, Quebec, on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on the same day at 6:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. His ashes will be scattered at his place of birth, later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
