1930-2021
Mary Raymond, also know as Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, passed away peacefully at her home in Aylmer at the age of 91 years.
Born in Val-Brillant, Gaspe, Quebec, she grew up in the small town of Napadogon, New Brunswick. She moved to Quebec City after getting married to her late husband Bliss Sansom and eventually resided in Montreal where she was a devoted mother of three children, Mike, Brian, and Derek (Christine).
She was a very loving grandmother to Larissa (Jason), Josef, and Kristofer (Amy), in addition to her great grandchildren, Aleksander and Gabriel.
Mom was extremely devoted to raising her children. She was strong and had endless energy. She was a lioness!
She was a loving Grandma. Her grandchildren will look back on a treasure trove of loving memories of time spent with her in Montreal while growing up. She adored her great-grandchildren and referred to them as her little lumberjacks!
After raising her children, mom went on to work as a waitress, she never slowed down. If she wasn’t painting her own apartment she was helping out her kids with their own homes, either painting or cleaning (germs never had a chance with her around).
She spent her last 36 years living independently, rarely asking for help. She was always more concerned about others than herself. She was strong, brave, and decisive - dying on her own terms.
A determined and fiercely independent woman, mom’s legacy is deeply entrenched in all our hearts. We will greatly miss her every day.
Special thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Hull Hospital, especially her roommate, who made her last few weeks a joy. Also, special thanks to all the workers, nurses, and management team at the Chartwell Monastere D’Aylmer who worked hard to make her life happy and comfortable.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a future date.
