Michael will be lovingly remembered by his brother Brent Marsh (Debbie) of Glovertown, NL, and his sister Ruth Hartmann (Frank) of Duncan, BC. He leaves behind his children: Douglas Cooper (Robyn) of Mayo, YT; Tricia Mudford (Matt) of Woodstock, ON; Zoé David-Cooper of Montreal, QC; and René David-Cooper (Janna) of Gatineau, QC. He was a proud grandfather to Erika, Rachel, Ty, Romie and Charlie. Michael will also be deeply missed by his longtime partner, Claude David.
Michael dedicated much of his life to education, teaching first in Thunder Bay and later in the Ottawa-Carleton region. A lifelong lover of history, he found great joy in learning and sharing his knowledge, inspiring curiosity in those around him. He was known as a true gentleman—kind, thoughtful, and quietly dignified in all aspects of his life.
Outside of his career, Michael had a passion for flying as a recreational pilot, a joy he shared with his son René. Those who knew him will remember his calm presence, his inquisitive mind, and the warmth he brought to everyday moments.
A private family service will be held, with interment to take place in Harrogate, United Kingdom.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of CHSLD Aylmer for their exceptional care and compassion.
Michael will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew him.
