Elizabeth M. Hanrahan passed away quietly on July 17, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, NY. She was 96 years old.
Known to friends as Betty, she was born Elizabeth Mason in Buffalo, NY, in 1920. She lived in Denver, CO, until the untimely passing of her mother Alice Jennings Mason, after which she and sisters Edith and Ann were raised by their aunt and uncle, Thomas and Lillian Gillen of Brooklyn, NY. She married Edward F. Hanrahan in 1944 and, in 1952, moved to Stewart Manor, NY. She was continually active in the organizations of St. Anne’s Parish, Garden City, up until the past decade, having served positions with the Cub Scouts, various school groups, and the Parish Guild, as well as assorted outside charities.
Betty is survived by her three sons, Edward and his wife Ann of West Caldwell, NJ, Eugene of North Babylon, NY, and Robert and his wife Regina of Montvale, NJ. She is also survived by six grand children: Jeanine, Stephen, & Gregory of Long Island, NY, Robert, Sarah, & Colin of Montvale, NJ; and seven great-grandchildren: Keira, Allison, Emily & Ryan Quigley of Levittown, NY, Olivia & Stephen Hanrahan of Babylon, NY, and Ella Hanrahan of Holbrook, NY. She will be missed deeply by all of them.
Visitation for family and friends will take place on Friday at Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home, 448 West Main St., West Babylon, NY, from 10am to 12pm. Internment at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY, will follow.
