GIGLIA- Joan E. of Warrensburg New York, formally of West Islip, died October 29, 2020. She was 86 yrs old. Born November 13, 1933, the daughter of Charles "Carl" and Evelyn Louise (Gunther) Lawler, in Jamaica Hospital.
Married her childhood sweetheart John Giglia, September 19, 1953 in Williamsburg Brooklyn. They had 3 children.
Joan was a charter member of the Suffolk County Conservative Party-West Islip Committee woman and in 1979 ran for County Legislator 11 L-D.
She was very active with the children of West Islip. The P.T.A, girl scouts, boy scouts, little league girls softball (coach thru player agent then Vice President) A recipient of Honorary Life Membership Award for " Outstanding Service of Children". She was a teacher aide at Southgate and Bayview schools until 1983 when John retired from N.Y.P.D. and they moved to the Adirondack Mountains. There she did arts and crafts with the children at Riding Hy Dude Ranch and played Bingo. Joan was a member of Krafty Kritters of Brant Lake and The Adirondack Sam's R.V. Camping Club. John and Joan camped in the 44 States including Alaska.
Survivors include her daughters Louise and her husband Tony Durko, of West Babylon. Christine and her husband Larry Sample of Corsicana Texas, her son John III and his wife Linda Giglia of Babylon. Loving grandchildren Samantha (Mindy) Franco, Regina (Jason) McCutchen, Nicole, John IV and Joseph Giglia, Amanda (Kevin) Jarick, Jamie (Blair) Williams, Kyrieann Watson, Raymond (Courtney) Watson, Kelsey (Ryan) Brannan and Ryan Sample. Cherished great-grandchildren Gia Honahan, Mia McCutchen, Spencer Franco, Carter Williams, Jayden Cook, Emery, Aven, Londynn, and Everley Watson, Zane, Scout Isla and Kiernan Brannan, Brooklyn Perfido, Kevin and Joey Jarick.
