It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John, who died peacefully at the age of 80.
A man of deep integrity, boundless energy, and endless devotion to his loved ones, John leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and a life well lived.
Born in Glendale, NY in 1944, John grew up with a strong sense of duty and discipline, qualities that led him to proudly serve in the United States Army. Rising to the rank of sergeant, he served his country with honor and courage, and carried the values of service and resilience throughout his life.
He met Marie one night in June at the OBI and that's where their story began. He married the love of his life in 1973 and beginning a partnership that would span 51 joyful and adventurous years. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. John and Marie raised three wonderful children: Nick, Johnny, and Vinny; instilling in them the same sense of integrity, humor, and compassion that defined John himself.
After his time in the service John attended CW Post. He went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Accounting. John had a 35 year career working for the New York State Comptroller's office.
A passionate advocate for staying active and healthy, John embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an avid cyclist and with Marie occasionally at his side. They biked all over Long Island, even venturing into Brooklyn at times. He also found joy and mindfulness in yoga, kept his competitive spirit alive through handball, and surprised many with his skills in teaching himself how to juggle. A dedicated weightlifter for many years.
John also had a deep love for travel and adventure. Among all his journeys, Paris held a special place in his heart for both John and Marie. They often said to each other "We'll always have Paris" and treasured every visit.
John is survived by his beloved wife Marie; his three children: Nick (Alison), Johnny (Andrew), and Vinny and his two adored granddaughters: Juliet and Alicia.
John’s life was a testament to loyalty, strength, and love. His presence at family gatherings with his entertaining wit and unfiltered remarks will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
