John Patrick Sylvander

John P. Sylvander, 84, of Lindenhurst, joined his beloved wife, Maryann in Eternal Life on April 22, 2022. John was the devoted father of John (Martha), Donna (Stephen Cantore), Jennifer (John Vilkelis), Thomas (Jennifer), and Erica (John Johnson). Adored grandfather of Kathleen (Dominic), Michael, Matthew, Kristina, Emily, Sean, Johnny, Samantha, Patrick, Aiden, and predeceased by his Grandson, J.P. Cherished great-grandfather of Michael, Jackson, Cameron, Mason, and Declan. John joins his loving parents, John J. and Mary (Monaghan) Sylvander along with his sisters Mary Ann, Kathleen and Joan in Heaven.

A member of the Lindenhurst community since 1964, John was a Retired NYPD Detective from the 79th precinct in Brooklyn, NY, and a proud U.S. Army veteran having served from 1960-1963. In his younger years, alongside his Father, John served as an usher at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. John will be loved and forever missed by his adoring family and by all the many lives that he touched.

Family will receive friends at Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home, 448 W. Main Street, Babylon, Sunday, April 24, 2022, 2pm-4:30pm and 7 pm-9:30 pm. Funeral Mass, 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2022, Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, Lindenhurst. Mass may also be viewed via live stream at www.olphlindenhurst.com. Interment to follow at Breslau Cemetery, Lindenhurst, New York.
