My grandma was a very stubborn woman. I know that because my mom is, my siblings are, and so am I. She was very particular in doing things her way, and needed it done when she said. If she called and asked me to move her chairs from the porch to the shed and I even said in passing that I was free Tuesday, then it was carved in stone. The last couple times I saw her, I brought her KFC for lunch. Even stuff like her food order were very particular, she wanted a single extra crispy chicken breast, cole slaw, a biscuit and a small coke. I made the mistake of getting her a meal, which came with everything she asked for and a wing, to which she made me eat because she knew she couldn't finish it. I work at the King Kullen in Bay Shore which Grandma thought of as free instacart. I would get phone calls before and after shifts when she needed a few small things for the house. A single onion, a bottle of Cran-Apple juice, Corn bread, and a can of cream of mushroom. She would give me the money when I couldn't pay for it and even when I could she refused to let me leave empty handed. They didn't mean much at the time but there were plenty of times I would sit with her in the TV room after we ate and watched the same MeTV Westerns. I would give a lot to do that one more time. A few years ago Val and I went over and we changed the channel and the movie UP was on. We got to the part when the old man is at the falls by himself, and he's standing at the edge, looking at the horizon. Suddenly, unprompted, grandma goes "jump". My grandma was also a gossip, if you wanted something to get out, you'd tell her. I once told her about a girl I was seeing and later that same day my mom told me Grandma said "I had a very nice conversation with Christopher'". There are a bunch of little things that will always remind me of her, things that don't make any sense to anyone else but me and maybe my siblings. Loretta was my grandma and I was her favorite. My grandma was the most loving and stubborn person I’ve ever met. She knew what she wanted and if she didn’t get it exactly the way she wanted and when she wanted, she would make it everybody’s problem. My grandma was my best friend. She helped raise me and my brothers. She would get us off the school bus everyday, take us out to dinners at Friendly’s. She would call me every time she heard I was sick and let me know that a little birdie told her I was down in the dumps and to feel better soon. She’d call me if it was raining to make sure I wasn’t going out. And every time I went on a trip she made sure to text me get there safe. Her love was endless. I gave my grandma a bracelet a few years ago when she was in and out of the hospital. Me and my brother have a friend whose mom owns a crystal shop. I reached out to him and asked if he had any crystals for healing. He gave me this and I gave it to grandma. She always had it with her. Last week I went over to have lunch with her and she picked up the bracelet and said “you gave this to me, I always keep it right here”. On Sunday at the hospital Aunt Patti told me that grandma had 9 lives. She really did. There were so many times I’d pray she’d make it through whatever she had going on. She always did. She was the strongest person I know. I’m choosing to believe that this bracelet had something to do with it. For that reason I’ll keep it with me forever. It makes me happy to know she’s not in pain anymore and she’s reunited with papa after so long apart.

She was the best! Never missed a dance with my Aunt when there was an opportunity! Xoxo

What an incredible example of endurance Aunt Loretta was….and not just for weeks, months or years, but for decades. Always positive and encouraging despite what she might be dealing with.  She will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this especially difficult time.  We wish we could have been there with you in person.

Loretta was my 2nd mom for most of my life! Jenn and I were best friends for many, many years. My heart is broken. Whenever I’d sleep over, I would laugh at the fact she’d just start vacuuming at 11pm! She always welcomed me over and I’d just walk in the back door and say “Mom, I’m home!” First thing she’d say was “did you eat? Have some Entenmann’s dad brought home!” I’ll miss her texts for no reason and AWESOME HUGS! Rest easy now, mom. You deserve it. Give my love to dad.
