To the Cera Family:

I am so very sorry to hear of Mr. Cera's passing. I could never call him by his first name. He was my teacher (SAT course and speed reading course) at Massapequa High School and will always be Mr. Cera to me.

Please know that he was very special in my life. He was my good friend in high school and for years after that. He was there for me a number of times when I needed it most.

He is a very special soul. While you mourn his loss, please celebrate what a special man he was.

Dear Linda and family. 

I am thinking  and praying for you and your sons.  I know you will be celebrating Russ’s life next week and the many lives he touched. 

My best memories from all those years ago was his quick wit and kind heart.  He made everyone he came in contact with feel important and listened to. A truly wonderful  teacher, lover of nature, and a quick welcoming smile.  

Rest In Peace sweet Russ.

My deepest condolences to all of you. Russ was like a second dad to me while growing up. Way too many memories to list. He loved his family, the outdoors and just living life. I will miss him greatly. May he Rest In Peace. Love you Russ.

I had been in frequent email contact with Russ in the last couple of years. I was aware of his condition but  this news still comes as a shock.  He appreciated our continuing correspondences. It hopefully took his mind off his illness for a time, He enjoyed talking about wolves, sports, especially baseball and his beloved Yankees and he maintained his interest in politics and current events. He shared  some of his "growing up Italian " years and his medical condition with its ups and downs. He maintained a fighting spirit right to the end. May he  rest in peace. My condolences to Linda and the Cera  family/   Al Midura


Cousin Russ, always miss you.  Remembering Rich, Russ, Aunt Mary and the Lionel trains visits when we were kids. Loved your books fellow writer.
