Shirley Ann Butler was born March 12, 1937 in Harlem, New York. She was the youngest of three children born to Theresa Simmons Butler, a beautician and Charles Henry Butler, a Pullman porter. Shirley was named after Shirley Temple, a popular child actress of the day and inspiration for Theresa’s Curly Top Beauty Shop, also located in Harlem.
The Butler family moved to the Bronx, New York. There, as a teenager, she met her sweetheart and future husband Howard G. Daley. Shirley graduated from Morris High School, Bronx, New York in 1954. She earned her college degree in Mortuary Science and Histopathology from New York College of Mortuary Science. She started her career as a licensed funeral director working for funeral homes in New York City.
Shirley and Howard Daley married in 1957. They lived in Cambria Heights, Queens, New York. Their family grew to include a son - Howard, Jr. and a daughter – Lisa Marie. Eventually the Daley family relocated to West Babylon, New York. There, they were blessed with their youngest child, Tricia Carolyn, named for Shirley’s beloved late mother Theresa Butler Carroll.

In these positions she worked alongside pathologists performing autopsies and preparing specimens for further medical examination and study. She received the Employee of the Year Award for her dedicated work to improve the health and safety of the medical staff and patients.
Shirley was disabled due to sarcoidosis for many years. She openly shared her knowledge and experience with others suffering from this ailment. With the knowledge and experience she gained, she successfully organized a support group to help educate other people disabled by sarcoidosis.
Shirley was also blessed with an eye for fashion. In her free time, she assisted numerous men and women with their selection and design of fur fashions that have been featured in various fashion shows.
Shirley spent her golden years traveling across America and Europe with her daughters and her beloved godson, John Jubilee.
