

Norvan John Powers age 78, passed away peacefully at the Bakersfield Heart Hospital on November 13th 2014. Born in Bakersfield California, as a 5th generation Kern County resident, Norvan was surrounded by love, tenderness and his family as he went to be with our lord and savior Jesus Christ. As a devoted husband, father, grandpa and papa, he was passionate about family and serving his community. Norvan never met a stranger and demonstrated his sense of humor and kindness until his very last breath. He will be greatly missed.Born the first son of Virginia and Stanley Powers, Norvan embraced his pioneer roots raising livestock and riding horses from an early age. He graduated from Bakersfield High School and went on to attend Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, to major in Animal Husbandry often joking that Avila 101 was his favorite class. Norvan returned to Bakersfield and joined the Kern County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sherriff where he served for 18 years. At 20 years of age he married his sweetheart and "the love of his life" Charlene. Their love story has never ended and during their 56 years of marriage they raised four children all of whom are still here in Bakersfield. After taking a medical related retirement from the Sheriff's Department he owned and operated, Alert Merchant Patrol, Powers Investigations, RangeMasters, Powers Security Training Schools and in his spare time taught law enforcement classes at various community Colleges. Traveling and spending time with friends and family made him smile and laugh. Spending time in the saddle chasing cattle with his relatives and friends in the High Country above Kernville was his greatest hobby.
Norvan is survived by the "love of his life" Charlene Powers, sons Craig Powers his wife Becky and their children, Eric, his wife Maggie, Morgan and Alex, Son Brynn Powers and his wife Yvonne their three children Carryn, Annlyse and Duke, Son Eric Powers and his wife Cheryl their two children Erika and her husband Tim Callahan and Colby, Daughter Joy Felkins and her husband Don and their three children, Johnathan and his wife Kristen their two children Lilly and Madelyn, Aubrie Felkins her children Keely and Mason and Whitnie Felkins. Norvan is also survived by his sister Joy Kirschenmann and her family and Sister in Law Aloma Powers and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Virginia Powers and his brother Lawton Powers. He was a longtime member of Bakersfield First Assembly of God Church.
