

Mrs. Ruth (Ruthie) Ernestine Ruggiero died peacefully in her home on July 29 in Baltimore, Maryland at the age of 96. Ruth is survived by her three children: Joseph Ruggiero Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, Rene Postrech, Vincent Ruggiero: five grandchildren, Keri Ann Weller, Ronald Postrech and his wife Ann, Leah Raszewski and her husband Ross, Nicole Ruggiero, Joshua Ruggiero and his wife Dana. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Joseph Ruggiero Sr.
Ruth was born on July 19th, 1928 in Baltimore Md. to Wilbur and Ernestine Foose. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas School and later graduated from Seton High School in 1946. She married Joseph Ruggiero, a young soldier whom she met at a USO dance in 1948. The couple moved to Hoboken, NJ and started their family with the birth of their first son, Joseph. The couple then returned to Baltimore where the couple welcomed two more children, Rene and Vincent. Ruth worked many years for Continental Trailways as a tour counselor and later in her career for AAA. She had a very full life and divided her time between family, work, and volunteering. She held offices in many Catholic organizations as well as community associations. Throughout her long life and career, she forged many friendships that lasted a lifetime, including May Sopher who remained her best and closest friend.
Ruth had a passion for reading and built an extensive library. She loved travelling for her job and with her family. She relished taking her grandchildren on trips and excursions from seaside vacations to New York adventures to see current plays. She was fun loving and had a quick sense of humor. She also had a sharp sense of propriety which earned her the affectionate title of Drill Sargent from her nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 2:00 in the afternoon at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1008 W. 37th Street, Baltimore, MD 21211. A Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 1:00 in the afternoon at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that charitable donations be made in Ruthie’s name to a charity of your choice.
