Alice Janette Helmus, “Alja” was taken into heavenly glory in the early hours of July 13, 2026. Alja fought a 3 year battle with cancer, and the family is thankful that her suffering has come to an end. She was born in Assen, the Netherlands on March 19, 1970 to Harry and Bea Janssen, and moved to Canada after she married her husband Marinus on October 5, 2001 in Heerde, NL. She spent 15 years working as an art and music teacher at Covenant Canadian Reformed School. She is survived by her husband Marinus, and her children Berenda (Justin), Jessalynn, Harrold (Erin), and Alysha, as well as her mom Bea Janssen and her siblings Rolf (Greetje) Janssen, Rianne (Andrew) Viersen, Erica (Lambert) Blokhuis, and Harriet (Ronald) Noppers.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday July 20, 2026 from the Barrhead Canadian Reformed Church.
