Arnold Bobke

Arnold died peacefully with family at his side at the great age of 90 years. He was born in Karlinowka, Poland (now Ukraine), the first son of Robert and Berta. The family arrived in Canada on June of 1930 to homestead in the Ballentine, Alberta area. The family arrived just as the Great Depression was starting. Those early yearsof deprivation had a very lasting effect on his life as it did with others of this age. In 1950 he married Lydia Breitkreutz and together they settled in their farm in Meadowview, a few miles away from the homestead.

In 1979 they retired to Barrhead. Dad spent his “retirement” years building houses, working at the alfalfa plant, and helping his children with their many projects.

Arnold is survived by his loving wife Lydia of 64 years, his 2 daughters: Linda (Leonard Andrews) of Chilliwack, BC, Jane (Robin Upham) of Airdrie, AB, his 3 sons: Garry (Kelly) of Calgary, AB, Ron (Judy) of Mill Bay, BC, and Arthur of Airdrie, AB, his grandchildren: Christina Upham, Robbie Upham (Paulina), Elaine (David Elson), Amy (Todd Larson), Cathy Andrews, Allan Andrews (Leah), Kurtis Bobke, and Nowel Bobke, his great-grandchildren; Bobby and Grace Elson, and Ava Larson as well as many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Arnold will be remembered for his generous spirit, sense of humor, his love of being in the wilderness, and great passion for fishing, hunting and berry picking. He loved his family and farming.

Arnold was predeceased by his infant son Larry in 1954, his brothers Herb and Louis as well as sisters-in-law

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 1st, 2015 at 2:00 pm the Barrhead Church of God located at 4611 52 Ave in Barrhead, AB with
