It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Claire Louise Torvalson (née Hewitt) at the age of 73. On April 7, 2024, she left peacefully to join her late husband (and soulmate) Fred, her father Aubrey, and her mother Dorothy. Having passed just days before, her brother Reg (Rex) walked her home.
Claire was known for her welcoming nature, sharp mind, and quick wit. An avid baker and a seamstress, she developed a passion for quilting. She often gifted handmade quilts; wrapping in one is like receiving a warm hug from her. Her greatest pleasure, however, was found in loving her children and grandchildren with a devotion rivalled only by her enthusiasm for the Edmonton Oilers.
Her memory will be cherished by her children Jeff, Jennifer, and Amber (Shawn); her grandchildren Liam, Logan, Faethe (Riley), Bethany, and Madeline; her much-loved in-laws Linda, Gwen, and Pat (Mike), extended family; and dear friends.
She vowed not to leave this earth before becoming a great-grandmother. In the hours before passing, she fulfilled that vow by “meeting” her future great-grandchild.
Claire will be deeply missed. We will find solace in the memories we share and in the knowledge that she is free and at peace—her presence will forever remain within our hearts.
