An old cowboy, farmer, real estate agent, husband to Allison (deceased), and Dad to Heide and Buck. John passed away Feb 1, 2026 peacefully in his room at Shepards Care.
Born to Edward and Annie Eden on May 28, 1943 in Turner Valley AB, John grew up with his younger brother Bill on the Highwood River just West of Longview. In his younger years he worked as a hand on ranches including the historic Bar U Ranch. He worked for a pack outfit guiding in Kananaskis and later at Kendall’s Lumber Mill. After he met Allison at a Valentines dance in Millerville and married her in 1967, he started a trucking business. The pair later decided to relocate and bought the land that became HeiBuck Ranch near Romeo Lake. The next several decades saw John involved in the Cattle Commission, Wild Rose Rodeo board, Romeo Lake Gymkhana Club, and various horse and beef 4-H clubs, He was often seen hauling Heide to horse 4-H and horse shows, coaching Buck’s hockey team, and running Buck to Beef 4-H and Rodeos. He was maybe most happy when he was driving a team of horses with his kids dragging along on their toboggans or when he was team roping with Buck at a Rodeo. Pie and rice pudding also sat near the top of his list. A celebration of life will be held at Peavine Hall on Thursday Feb 12th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation.
