Henry A. Wierenga

Henry was born on November 24, 1921 in Uithuizen, Groningen, The Netherlands. He was the eleventh child of thirteen born to Andries and Hendrika Wierenga. In 1928 his family emmigrated to Canada. Henry married Roelfina Wiegers on December 20, 1949. They moved onto the farm that previously belonged to his brother Herman. The farm was situated on a hill overlooking Shoal creek so Henry acquired the nick name “Henry by the creek”, to distinguish him from the other Henry Wierengas. He really loved farming and swimming in that creek. Most of all he loved his family and they were blessed to have him as a part of their lives for 91 years. He loved and cared for his large family; he especially enjoyed the grandkids! Henry went to his heavenly Father’s home on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.

Henry will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Rulie; and their nine children: Andrew (Wavy) Wierenga; Hilda (Joe) Fisher; Hendrene ( Wayne) Fisher; Jean (John) Nanninga; Trixie (Larry) Nanninga; Garry (Janice) Wierenga; Marion (Frank) Rayment; Wes (Ramona) Wierenga; and Irene (Steve) Vriend. His 37 grandchildren: (Jennifer, Andria, Christopher, Anthony, Stephanie Wierenga); (Marlo, Derek, Shawn Fisher) (Tammy, Mona, Brent, Greg Fisher), (Amanda, Clinton, Willis, Charlotte Nanninga), (Tara, Maria, Laresa Nanninga), (Adam, Joyce, Elton, Rebecca, Dennis Wierenga), (Meredith, Graham, Mark Rayment), (Colton, Whitney, Luke, Mariah, Isaiah, Austin, Noah Wierenga), (Meagan, Cole, Janae Vriend). 44 great-grand children and 19 in-law grandchildren will also miss him dearly. His parents, all of his siblings, and one great-grandchild predeceased him.
