John will be loved and forever missed by his mom, Lena Schuring and his 10 siblings, Hermina & Tomm Everett, Arie & Megan Schuring, Anne & Malcolm Nicolai, Trudy & Harvey Quartel, Peter Schuring & Simone, Nell & John Aukema, Winson & Tammy Schuring, David Schuring, Janet & Ken Verlinden, Audrey & Mark Visser and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
John was predeceased by his dad, Cornelius Schuring and his sister-in-law, Judy Schuring, both who passed in January of 2023.
John was born in Barrhead, Alberta and lived in Neerlandia on the farm for the first 8 years of his life. In 1967 the family moved to Barrhead and then to Edson in 1970 and finally to Edmonton in 1974. In his later years John moved back home and lived with his aging parents. His family is grateful for the time he spent with them, especially the last 3 years that he was able to care for his mom after the passing of his dad. John’s passion was driving trucks, motorbikes and anything that moved with wheels. He worked for many trucking companies and was also an owner operator for a time. John was a very skilled driver and could manoeuvre loads in many precarious situations. He continued to drive until recently when cancer started to take over his body. His last job was hauling feed for his brother-in-law in Neerlandia. He loved driving to Neerlandia because he felt like he was able to reconnect with his past. John was very sociable and loved to reminisce and tell stories to anyone who would listen. Growing up a lot of his time was spent at the farm in Neerlandia. His love for driving and his love of animals were nurtured at a young age on the farm. John loved all animals, especially his cats. He leaves behind his 3 cats, Roley, Zeyph and Mitts who were his children to him.
John adored his nieces and nephews and all their children and they loved and adored him in return. John especially loved newborn babies; he could not get enough kisses and snuggles from them.
John was a child of God and the Lord never left him even through his times of trouble. In recent years John was able to testify about his love for God. John believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour and as a family that is our comfort in life and death.
The family wishes to thank and express their gratitude to the ICU staff at the University of Alberta Hospital and his oncologist Dr. Taparia for the amazing care they provided.
An interment will be held on Friday, February 06, 2026 at 10:30am in Neerlandia, AB, with his family and those wishing to attend, followed by a memorial service held at Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Edmonton, AB at 2:00pm.
