Klaas Tiemstra was born in Neerlandia, Alberta on December 31, 1930 to Charles and Sadie Tiemstra. He was their second son. He grew up on the family farm and started school in a two room school house, when he was 5 or 6 years old. When Klaas was beginning Grade 11, he went to school in Barrhead but soon quit and took some courses by correspondence. Klaas helped his dad on the farm until he was 23 or 24 and then moved to Edmonton to work for a feed company. For several years, in the Fall, he travelled throughout eastern Alberta testing chickens for pollorem. This was a government job. These chickens had to be tested so that farmers could sell hatching eggs. This job came to an end for Klaas when he had a car accident on November 12, 1968. He was laid up until the end of March 1969.
Klaas married Anna Strydhorst on October 7, 1955. They were blessed with 5 children: Phil, Roberta, Bernie, Kevin and Steve. Klaas grew chickens for hatching eggs until he was 65 and then sold the farm to Kevin. He worked for Kevin until he was 82 years old and then moved to Lacombe with Anna. For the next 8 years, Klaas latch hooked rugs. They made nice gifts for the grandchildren when they got engaged.
On September 28, 2021, Klaas was admitted to the Lacombe Hospital with covid pneumonia and stayed there for the next 4 months. Only Anna and Kelly were allowed to visit him. On January 20, 2022, Klaas was moved to Bentley Care Centre and here, he was allowed as many visitors as wished to come. We thank God for the 3-plus years spent there. Klaas entered his heavenly home on June 2, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Anna, his children, Phil & Carolyn, Roberta & Ron Biel, Bernie & Kelly, Kevin & Beatrice, and Steve & Michelle along with 18 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.
“Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord, Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57
