Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband and best friend Chuck (Charles), son Roger (Daylene) Ernst, step sons David (Marlene) Greig and Donnie Greig, her brother Walter (Joyce) Craft, sister Carolyn (Herb) Pusch, sister-in-law Irene Craft, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Myrtle was predeceased by her parents Roy and Alicia Craft, son Michael, brothers Doug and Jim.
Born to Alicia and Roy Craft on May 24, 1940 in Barrhead, Alberta, Myrtle was raised on the family homestead in the Roseholm district with her three brothers (Doug, Jim, Walter) and one sister (Carolyn).
Myrtle attended the Roseholm schools #1 & #2 and then eventually traveled into Barrhead for her senior years of School.
As a young lady, Myrtle worked with various logging and highway maintenance camps as an assistant to the cook or the main cook. We believe that this work experience and her mother Alicia’s guidance is what gave Myrtle the gift and love for cooking and baking. Myrtle was a fabulous cook and baker.
Myrtle married Clarence Ernst in 1960 at Barrhead, Alberta and move to the family farm north west of Barrhead. In the years following Myrtle and Clarence settled in to the farm life and raised two sons, Roger and Michael. Farm life kept Myrtle very busy assisting in all aspects on the farm and being involved in the farming communities (Summerdale, Camp creek) plus working outside the home.
In 1981, Myrtle married Charles (Chuck) Greig in High River, Alberta, which instantly double the size of her family, welcoming step sons David and Donnie Greig.
Myrtle and Chuck bought a house in the town of High River, Alberta and quickly began to make it home. Myrtle, along with Chuck’s assistance, transformed the property in to a beautiful garden with many shrubs and flowers. Myrtle loved to spend time in her garden! Myrtle, also managed and operated the local Handi-Bus for the Town of High River for approximately 20 years, until her retirement in 2001.
After retirement, Myrtle and Chuck made the decision to move to the Greig family homestead in Kneehill County just outside the town of Trochu, Alberta. It is here that Myrtle continued to live a beautiful life of gardening, cooking/baking and community.
Unfortunately, the last few years of Myrtle’s life had been affected by dementia which brought her back to Barrhead to receive supportive care at the Dr. WR Keir Continuing Care Centre.
A Memorial Service will be held on September 15, 2025 at 1:00pm at the Rose Garden Chapel in Barrhead, Alberta.
Interment will take place in Trochu Alberta at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in the name of Myrtle Greig can be made to; Blue Heron Support Services Association or the Alzheimer Society.
