Siebolt "Sy" Vander-Molen, age 89, passed away on July 26, 2026. Born in Zandeweer, Groningen, The Netherlands, Sy immigrated to Canada and built a life defined by hard work, love for his family, and a deep sense of community.
On February 26, 1965, he married Wietske "Wiea" Vander-Molen, and together they built a family. Sy spent his early years as a Body Shop Manager at Don Wheaton before going on to be a chicken farmer in Neerlandia.
Sy was known for his wisdom, always ready with advice given in love and compassion. He had a deep love for travel, a great eye for a good deal, and a genuine love of being social. Above all, he cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and being with them brought him his greatest joy.
Above all, Sy's Christian faith was the foundation of his life. He trusted deeply in Jesus Christ as his Saviour, and that faith gave him quiet strength through every season of life. It shaped how he loved his family, how he treated others, and the peace with which he faced his final days, in the sure hope of eternal life.
Sy is survived by his wife, Wiea Vander-Molen; his daughter, Tracey Vander-Molen; his son, Sidney Vander-Molen, and his children, Justin and Branden; his daughter, Wendy Vanderveen (Brian), and their children, Brianna (Matthew), Allen, Jeffrey, and Michelle (Brady); his son, Rodney Vander-Molen (Ina), and their children, Jolene and Thomas; and his daughter, Danna Hoeksema (Darryl), and their children, Chelsea, Tyler, Shawn, and Mikayla; and his great-grandchildren, Cooper, Oliver, Hudson, Miles, and Walker. He is also survived by his siblings, Martha (Dick) DeGelder, Steve (Anne) Vander-Molen, and Shirley (Rob) Heap, and other numerous extended family.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Patty Vander-Molen.
Services will be held on Friday, July 31st, 2026. Graveside service at 10:00 AM at the Neerlandia Cemetery followed by a reception at the Neerlandia CRC fellowship hall. Memorial at 3:00PM at Trinity CRC 13427 St NW, Edmonton, AB. Reception to follow.
