“One bright morning, when this life is over, I’ll fly away…”
William (Bill) Nickel of Manola, Alberta, took that final ride into the sunset on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. He was 87 years old. He was surrounded by love and family, who were gathered in the great outdoors he loved. A breeze was blowing and he was sheltered from the sun by his notorious cowboy hat. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret; 5 children and their families: Lynn (Al) Symington, Marilyn (Tom) Johnson, Bill Jr. (Gloria) Nickel, David (Joanne) Nickel, Gary (Lore Bewer) Nickel; 5 grandchildren and their families: Nickelas Johnson, Lynn Johnson-Hango, Ryley Nickel, Jennifer Nickel-Brown, Joel Nickel; 2 foster daughters and their families: Starla Jacknife and Tanya Lalonde; 4 great-grandchildren and 8 foster grandchildren; his siblings, Margaret Hoeppner, Klara Selke, and John Nickel, and a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bill’s care team, who assisted him over the past 5 years: Leonard Krantz (doctor, friend and wrestling buddy) and all of the staff at the Dr. Keir Care Center.
A graveside service will be held Monday, May 21, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Manola Cemetery.
