Betty was born to the late George and Annie Mae Hill on April 9, 1939, in Ecru, MS. She graduated from Ecru High School in 1957 and soon after that moved to Memphis, TN and began working as a telephone operator for South Central Bell. In 1959 she met Joe Sanders through mutual friends and on Nov 15, 1959, they married.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe N. Sanders, her parents George and Annie Mae Hill, and her sister Bernice Shumaker. Betty leaves one son, Kirk Sanders (Judy) of Collierville, TN; one daughter, Pam Sanders of Ooltewah, TN; She also leaves four wonderful grandchildren. Ethan Sanders (Emily) of Chattanooga, Alex Henry (Stephen) of Beaumont, TX, Megan Black of Chattanooga TN, and Emily Black of Chattanooga TN.
Over many years Betty babysat a number of children in her home and affectionately came to be known as Ms. Betty to so many. Two of them were her own grandchildren (Ethan and Alex) who thrilled grandma and granddaddy to have them in their home. Several of the other children kept in touch with Ms. Betty over the years and are like a little brother or sister to Kirk and Pam.
The last two years she lived in Chattanooga TN with her daughter Pam and granddaughters; Megan and Emily. They got to spend a lot of one-on-one time with grandma and came to love her so much more. They spent many nights sitting on the couch laughing at grandma’s stories and listening to her long prayers.
But the most important thing in her life was her personal relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved listening to gospel music and Bible based preaching. The relationships she made in her Sunday School classes at Colonial Baptist and Balmoral Baptist were also very special to her.
