Carlene Curry Bell of Memphis. It is with great sadness that the family of Carlene Curry Bell of Memphis, TN announces she has passed away after a brief illness. Carlene took on many roles during her life: daughter, sister, wife, and mother. She will be best remembered as a caregiver, first for her parents in their later years and then for her steadfast devotion to her eldest son, Henry, who battled a degenerative neuromuscular disease the last two years of his life. Carlene is survived by her remaining son, Chris Bell, and his wife Wendy of Oakland, TN; by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Ed Sharrow of Memphis, and Cherie and John Mallon of Charleston, SC; by her brother and sister-in-law, Tim Curry and Kathy Ladner of Memphis; by her ex-husband, Henry Bell Sr. of Germantown; as well as a host of loving cousins, nephews and niece, and a wide circle of friends. Carlene had the eye and soul of an artist which manifested itself in her lifelong fascination with precious rocks and minerals, many of which she discovered herself while exploring caves. In her later life, she returned to her first love – painting – and this past December two of her works were displayed at the WKNO studios as part of an art exhibit by the Bartlett Senior Citizens Group where she was an active member. She also traveled when time and circumstances allowed. Her most recent trip was this past year to her ancestral homeland in Ireland. There will be a visitation at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, on Sunday, March 9 from noon until 1 p.m. A brief memorial service will follow. For those wishing to make donations in her name, Carlene has requested that they be sent either to the March of Dimes (www.marchofdimes.com) or the ALS Association (www.alsa.org).
