After high school graduation, he attended Little Rock University (now U of A at Little Rock) on a baseball scholarship playing 1949-1952. He and his brother Roy finished their baseball career in the Minor League with the Detroit Tigers. As a WWII Navy Veteran, he served on the USS Carpellotti in the US Atlantic Fleet between the US and Europe. Retirement for him came in 1996 from the Kroger Company after 45 productive years. He achieved the position of Delta Marketing V.P. based in Memphis, TN. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. Some of his sportsman activities included the Buck Master Program, Buck Master Antler Scorer, Professional Duck Caller Association and the Youth Hunt Program. Another youth program included managing the Kroger Little League Team for 3 years at Vestal Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas. In retirement he also mastered gardening with prize roses. His home in Cordova won Landscape of the Year twice from Countrywood Association. All Outdoors was his home with God. Other pastime was spent as an Arkansas Optimist Lieutenant Govenor and as a 32nd Degree Masonic Lodge Mason. In recent years his health prevented most outdoor activities but his will and determination did not fail to impress those who knew him. He was often referred to as a “Man’s Man” in every sense of the word. Today we say farewell, not goodbye. Rather we say he is never gone from our hearts as a Child of God, a Son, Warrior, Husband, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Mentor and Friend to all on his life’s path in the world.
