Charles served in the Tennessee National Guard and the United States Marine Corp, where he was able to travel the world and see places that he never thought he would. He was promoted to Sergeant before his Honorable Discharge in 1958. He was a retired Marine Merchant and Pipeline Operator on the Mississippi River. He loved to read, fish, and sit outside on warm sunny days and watch the hummingbirds.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Shelbia Ann Poore, and his second wife of 15 years, Eva Sue Johnston. He leaves behind three adult children, Scott Young (Kyria), Patti Harder (Randy), and Richard Young, and three grandchildren, Jessica, Arik, and Sarah. He also leaves behind two sisters, Donna Minton of Rutherford, Tennessee, and Sue Anderson of Milan, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Larry Young of Merritt Island, Florida.
He was a devoted and loving husband and father and grandfather, who will be missed by all who knew him.
His Celebration of Life Service will be held February 7, 2022, at 10:00 am at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133, with a brief visitation beginning at 9:30 am.
