He grew up in Aberdeen, MS, the son of Marvin and Ruby Jewel Bowen. He moved to Memphis in first grade and graduated from Kingsbury High School.
Clarence had a long-time career at UPS as a package car driver from 1975–2010. After his time as a driver, he was elected to be secretary treasurer — second only to the president of Teamster Local 667.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 52 years, Deborah Hamlin Bowen, and sister Dinah Bowen Montague (David).
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews — Wesley Montague (Lacey), Caitlan Bergevin (Nick), Christian Montague (Martha), Caroline Gillenwater (Trey), Jaci Nunnally (Stephen), Bryan Martin (Poppie), Danna Howard (Mark), and Tracye Watkins (deceased). He is also survived by 8 great nieces and nephews and 8 great-great nieces and nephews.
