I was blessed to have worked for David in the advertising department at Kroger for several years.  A larger than life personality and a fine man. He was one of my favorite bosses.  I have been praying for your family 💖

Mr. Chadwick was my late mother’s (Doris Holmes) boss at the Kroger corporate office. I fondly remember him always greeting my sister, Daphne, and me with a big smile and a warm hug every time we came to visit Mom at work, and he made us feel welcomed. He was always very kind, respectful and generous to Mom and our entire family. For instance, Mr. Chadwick made sure we had VIP tickets to the premier social, cultural and charitable events Kroger sponsored around town. It was so great to grow up with those opportunities. And when Mom passed in 2005 Mr. Chadwick and Kroger took tremendous care of our family during our bereavement.  He was a great man who is deeply loved and missed. May God bless and keep his family during this difficult time.

David was such a wonderful person of integrity. He loved his family,  business associates and community. Having met 40 years ago when we were both on the  board of Variety Club International, I always admired his commitment to help those less fortunate. May you rest in Heavenly peace Big David knowing how much your family, our shared grandchildren Drake, Devin and Reece, and friends loved you.

David was one of my closest early childhood friends. We lived on the same street - West 4th. We built forts and tree houses in the woods behind his house. We caught crawdads in the creek. We caught lizards and lightning bugs in a jar. We played pickup basketball on the goal behind his house. We played baseball in the field adjacent to his house. We built roads for our toy cars in a vacant lot. We rode bikes everywhere. The city park behind his house was our playground. He got a BB pistol. I got one. We initially made our own bows out of hickory tree limbs. Then, David got a store bought one and so did I.  We had archery contests to see who the best shot was. We proclaimed the winner to be called Robin Hood. The loser was Friar Tuck. We tried to shoot the highest arrow straight over our heads. Then we would stand and see how close the arrow would land to us.  It's a miracle we didn't impale ourselves. One evening we had a bon fire. We all had long poking sticks to keep the fire going.  There was a barrel of tar nearby that JC had brought home from the chemical plant. David decided to make his stick into a torch by sticking it in the tar and then the fire. Worked great till David held the torch straight up. Burning tar ran down the stick onto his hand. We didn't do that anymore.
Memories.
I was lucky to have David as a friend. It's sad to lose him.


David and I were best buddies as kids, going all the way back to grade school. I spent many happy times in his family’s home and he in mine. I never knew a kinder, gentler soul. We reconnected years later, I am so happy for it. 
Everyone, reach out to an old friend and just say,
 “Thanks for the good times, thanks for the friendship “.
