Dora Baskin, age 91, passed away at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House on May 10, 2024 following a brief illness. She was born on June 30, 1932 to in Obion County, Tennessee to Daniel and Goldie (Toots) Hooten. Dora married her husband Joseph on February 2, 1952 who preceded her in death on July 1, 2000.
Dora loved people and talking to anyone she could strike up a conversation with. She was an avid story teller, always the first in the car to go out to eat, loved to travel, loved the beaches of Destin, the casinos were her favorite stop and a skilled quilter. All of her family has benefited wrapping up in her quilts on cold winter nights. Dora retired from the IRS where she has always said that was the best job she ever had because she loved the work and the people she worked with.
Dora is survived by her daughters Pamela Holderfield of Memphis, Tn and Dana (David) Dye of Belton, Mo. Dora loved being Granny to Christy Gudenkauf, Sarah Rittmaster, Emily McVey, Hunter Holderfield and Tyler Holderfield. She leaves behind her eight great grandchildren Joseph Gudenkauf, Jacob Gudenkauf, Emma Gudenkauf, Samantha Rittmaster, Ella Rittmaster, Olivia McVey, Lukas McVey and Jack McVey. She is also survived by her sister Geraline Barrett of Florence, Ms. and her brother Harold Hooten of Union City, Tn. She also is survived by nieces and nephews who she loved to talk to and visit with.
Dora was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe Baskin, her parents Daniel and Goldie Hooten and her loving son in law Keith Holderfield.
Please join us celebrating her life for graveside services Saturday morning May 18, 2024 at 1030 am at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Garden, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, Tn. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tn.
