Her father was a Methodist Minister, and her mother a homemaker. Her family moved frequently due to her father's Ministry.
Doris was a graduate of Aberdeen High School in Aberdeen, Maryland and later she attended American University in Washington, DC where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
Once she graduated from college, Doris worked in Pennsylvania writing for newspapers and the Department of Health. She also had a short story published in True Story Magazine.
Doris was a talented artist with much of her artwork displayed around her apartment.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Deborah Bookas (husband John), two siblings, Michael Sampson and Anne Morrison.
