

EDDIE DALE COKER, 76, died October 18, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born October 17, 1935 in Dyer County, TN, the oldest of six children to Eddie and June Coker., he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wanda Winchester Coker; a daughter, Cindy Coker Manley (Greg) of Bartlett, TN; a son, David Coker (Kathy) of Lubbock, TX and four grandchildren, Ashley Manley Brin, Caitlin Manley, Taylor Coker and Grady Carr Coker; one brother, Dwain Coker, and four sisters, Bobbie Thompson, Marilyn Oliver (deceased), Donna Sweeney, and Deb Jordan. He served two years in the United States Army stationed in Augsburg, Germany. While serving in the Army, he pitched for the U.S. Army baseball team, the Ram Chicks. After his military service to the country, he worked as a carpenter and retired from Local 345. He also worked as a superintendent for Angel Contractors and Levine & Poor for most of his career. For approximately a decade, he was part owner of Coker and Dunn Construction with his good friend, Robert Dunn. He retired in September 2004 at the age of 70. During his retirement, what gave him the most enjoyment was spending time with his wife and family and drinking coffee with his buddies. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. today, Friday, October 21, and funeral services at 2 p.m. at the Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens.
